Not surprised at all by Wieters. Jones coming in first is a surprise though.

Maybe I'm not being objective, but I still see Nick as the best defensive OF on this team.

I don't think a RF or LF is ever going to win a vote like this over a CF. Markakis and Gardner would be the only ones that come to mind that would stand a chance.

I think Nick is a great defensive outfielder. But he will never win a vote like this because he doesn't WOW you all that much. He isn't all that fast and doesn't have the range that people like Jones, Granderson, and Trout have. He does make some sensational diving catches but that is because he doesn't cover the ground that some center fielders do. He really should have more gold gloves since he has a cannon arm and doesn't make ANY errors in range that he can cover. So he should get a little more respect for his defensive ability but I don't think he'll ever win a poll like this one.

I wasn't surprised by this at all, although Jones tends to blow massive bubbles as he leaps the wall he still makes the play. If he was blowing a bubble and committing an error that's a whole other story.

As for Wieters I'm again not surprised, whenever it's like 1-2 count in a jam I just yell at my computer screen for the pitcher to throw one in the dirt and try to get the batter fishing. I just don't see Matt not being able to block it, he's also great with the pitchers and on top of that teams should think twice about stealing on him.

Jim Johnson was #2 reliever. Hardy I don't know about. One needs a BA subscription to view the article.

I think Jones was second last year. For some reason UZR hates him and coaches and players love his defense. I think he's somewhere in between, probably bit more towards the players.

I also think Markakis is slightly stronger than Jones in the field. Markakis has a cannon of an arm. Additionally it seems like Markakis makes at least one above average play per game. His range is more inward and backward than it is side to side.
According to Bill James Runs saved list... Jones is a -9 CF for 2011, Markakis is a -10 RF for the last 3 years.... meaning neither one is that great as they are in the negative. Take it for what it's worth. I'm not a big saber guy.
