8/6/12 Minor League Gameday Thread

8/6/12 Minor League Gameday Thread

PostPost #1 by Tucker Blair » August 6th, 2012, 1:58 pm

Today's starters:
Norfolk: Dana Eveland
Bowie: Mike Wright
Frederick: OFF
Delmarva: Miguel Chalas
Aberdeen: Kevin Gausman

The highly anticipated start for Gausman is tonight. Relax if he doesn't do well, it's just to get his feet wet.

Miguel Chalas sounds like he had a good start today, going 5 innings with 1 ER.

Really wish Gausman's start was in Aberdeen and I wasn't away. Otherwise I definitely would have made the drive.

Me too. Unfortunate for us. Even though if I left now I could make it in time LOL.

And to top it off, I'll be at Camden Yards and then Ravens training camp on Saturday so I'm probably missing his next start if its in the usual 5 days.

By the way, Roderick Bernadina is hitting .364 in 9 games with Delmarva. Nice start for him

I seen Don say that Bernadina never met a pitch he didn't like. Small sample size for me seeing him, however, boy is that ever the truth.

Seems to work for him however.

Oh absolutely. He swings at everything.
I might faint if I ever see him work a walk.

But the kid can rope the ball. Love his bat speed and the sound off the bat head is a wow-factor for me. Violence in the swing might hold him back though when he starts seeing better breaking and off speed stuff.

former Mcdonogh star Joe Yermal got some work in today with the GCL Orioles. Pitched a scoreless inning.
He was a beast in HS but then had injuries and opted to go to college. Glad to see him back in business.

Juan Cruz on rehab assignment starting for Altoona.

2 change ups and a curve to Schoop for the K.
Britton and Widlansky follow with a single and double.

Vladimir Guerreros come along once in a generation. Almost everyone else needs to practice SOME plate discipline to be successful in the ML.

Manny Machado displayed his usual great discipline tonight. 2-3 with a BB and RBI.
Once he becomes more consistent with the bat, he's going to blow up.

Just like last year at Frederick he's making the adjustments and coming on strong. AA was the big jump. He might be a monster next year at AAA.

Also the Mike Wright line is ugly but:

He struggled the first inning, was just all over. Tough inning.
After that, he was absolutely impressive. I was just "casually" watching, but he looked great to me after that.

He's holding his own in AA at 22. Not bad at all.

Don, Tucker and I also saw him a week ago. He looked fantastic. Also had a rough first inning but really settled in nicely. Don will have a report soon.

He was just pounding the bottom of the zone and edges of the plate with ease.

Zach Britton was a Third Round steal. Maybe Wright will be, too.
