8/5/12 Minor League Gameday Thread

PostPost #1 by Tucker Blair » August 5th, 2012, 12:05 pm

Today's starters:
Norfolk: Zach Clark
Bowie: Robert Hinton
Frederick: Trent Howard
Delmarva: Eduardo Rodriguez
Aberdeen: Brady Wager

For anyone that missed it, the Orioles moved Zach Clark from Bowie to Norfolk, and Robert Hinton is making a spot start. It's also his first start since 2006(!).

Also... Eduardo Rodriguez is on a 5 inning limit for the rest of the year

Eduardo Rodriguez 8/5 Start Delmarva

Coming off a start agianst Lakewood which he only gave up 2 runs and was hit with the loss he comes back on the road in Greensboro to get a win in his 5 inning limit start. His start in Delmarva he only gave up 1 hit but 2 ERs, he had 2 BB and 4 K's. Holding batters to just a .063 batting average. Let's see if the offense can stay alive tonight and the pen can put another great effort together. Birds are 6 games out of a play off spot with less then 30 games in the season. Also Webb is closing in on a BB record for the Birds as he drew 4 last night.

I guess I'll throw this here.

The people that are using Machado's error total to reference his play at SS have not seen him play. Plain and simple. They are also referencing errors for a 20 year old at AA. Defense is no different than hitting, Players grow and work out kinks. Machado has come extremely far with his defensive game and there is no doubt in my mind he sticks there for the time being. I feel like it's a broken record and I say this once a week...

Rodriguez goes 3 up 3 down in first using 15 pitches to get job done. He gets 2 pop outs to start off inning and a ground out to end it. He fell behind each batter with all 3 batters getting first pitch balls. Rodriguez did have a 92 mph fastball and a 80 pmh slider working for him.

People did the same thing with fielding errors at SS with Elvis Andrus when he was in the minors. Most people that make comments like that just look at a box score or check season stats and base their opinions off of that.

Rodriguez needs 18 pitches to get a 3 up 3 down second using a 91-92 mph fastball, raising his pitch total to 32. He turned inning around by getting all 1st pitch strikes to all three batters. Adams led off inning with a 8 pitch K, followed by 2 ground outs. Great start for Rodriguez just needs to cut down on the pitches.

Delmarva strike first with a run in the 3rd to make it 1-0. Bernadina lead off with a single moved over by Planeta with a sac bunt. Pena grounded out to move the runner to 3rd. Followed by a walk to Narron, Ohlman registers a RBI single with two outs. That's 7 2 out RBI's in last 2 games and 14 BB this series for Birds.

A 4 batter 3rd for Rodriguez only hit given up so far was a very good bunt by Keys that Pena couldn't get to. After a lead off K he gets a 2 pitch ground out and ends the inning with another ground out to 3rd. Using 13 pitches bringing pitch count up to 45 and having a 91-92 mph FB and 79-80 mph slider to still be very strong outing by the young 19 year old.

And for those saying he has to move to 3B as he continues to grow, hang that one up too. Cna he move to 3b? Yes. Will he have to move to 3B to be successful, no way. If they want to plug him in at SS for the next 12 years, they can.

Rodriguez uses 15 pitches to put away th Grasshoppers leaving a runner at 3rd. Barnes led off with a single moved to 3rd on two ground outs, and inning ending with another ground out leaving runner at 3rd. Esposito making 2 great diving plays at 3rd.

Are you in Greensboro or basing the great diving plays off Laskey's call of the game?

Rodriguez uses just 10 pitches to get out of a jam in the 5th bringing his pitch count to 70 to end his outing. He gave up 2 lead off singles, followed by a E6 by Starr loading the bases. Starr then makes a grab to double out man at second getting two outs and leaving runner on 3rd. Last batter of inning comes up and grounds out making this Rodriguez first shutout since June 6th. Juan Guzman is up in pen. See if pen can keep up the good work and hold on to lead.
