Orioles rotation for 2013

Orioles rotation for 2013

PostPost #1 by MikeNewcomb92 » August 3rd, 2012, 3:31 pm

Does anyone have an opinion on what the Orioles starting rotation will be for next year? Let's get the debate going.

There will be at least two SPs that are NOT part of the team now.

Very, very early. Injuries are bound to happen.

Early prediction: Hammel, Chen, Wada, Arrieta, Tillman.

What Jordan said. Although I'd have to go with Hammel, Chen, Tillman, Arrieta, Matusz.

Jordan,

I'll bet you a dinner before a game that at least two of those guys won't be in the rotation, and at least one won't be with the team.

And I wouldn't take the bet. Of course it will probably be 2 of the guys I mentioned. Early prediction, like I said.

Hoping that it's due to competition and not injuries.

with the current roster I'll say Hammel, Chen, Wada, Arrieta and Matusz.

Hopeful they go out and find a #2/3 type guy to plug in.

There will be a plethora of veteran SPs coming off of down years to choose from this Winter. I would hope that we sign at least two of them to one year contracts. That being said, I think we have ay least three #2/3 type guys already in the system. We just need to develop them.

Hammel, Chen then after that who knows.....I'm hoping to aquire 1-2 starters via free agency or trade. Our mid 20's group is going to have to step up threir game if they want to stick. Arrieta, Tillman and Matusz all have the potential.

There are so many pitchers that will be available so it will depend on how the market plays out. Chen and Tillman should be locked in. Hammel is going into his final year so they could trade him, extend him, or do nothing and keep him in the rotation. Gonzalez, Hunter, Arrieta, Matusz, and Britton will all be fighting for 1 or 2 spots depending on what they do in free agency and with Hammel. Wada was promised a rotation spot when he was signed but that may be out the window since he is coming off an injury. I guess he has to be thrown with the others fighting for the final spot or two.

Hammel and Chen are the only two I see "set" for 2013. I see one FA signing and one trade as DD reshapes the starting corp. I don't see Tillman as a lock only because of his inconsistency. 8-)
