Derek Lowe DFAd

Derek Lowe DFAd

Derek Lowe has been designated for assignment by the Indians according to mlbtraderumors.com. Think the O's should give him a look? He's put up some pretty hideous numbers this year back in the AL but after watching Zach Britton against the Yankees and knowing that Matusz and Arrieta would probably benefit from more time in the minors, maybe Lowe is worth a shot.

Go for it! Sinker ball pitcher is much better than Blanton who gives up long balls. Who knows he might surprise us, now that our Defense is playing well now.

Can't hit a groundball out of the ballpark. He still has a nice sinker with great movement. But when we saw him, it was breaking too much. He needs to throw it higher so it ends up at the bottom of the hitter's knees. Not throwing it at the hitter's thighs so it ends up at their feet.

Dan Connolly ‏@danconnollysun

Dont be surprised if #Orioles make big push for Derek Lowe now that he DFA'd. Duquette traded for him in 1997 on advice from Gary Rajsich 8-)

I'm actually OK with the idea of aquiring Lowe. He makes far more sense than Moyer and some of the other guys we tried out this year. I thought for sure we would have scored a starter before the TD given the fact that Hammel is on the shelf.... THere is no doubt that he would give us a better chance to win than say Britton or Hunter.

Go for it DD.

Sure, he can't be much worse than what some of the starts have been this past month.

I am not thrilled by him anymore, but the guy probably is better than what's happened the past 2 months. Worth a shot, can always DFA him again if it doesn't work out.

Worst case is it sends down one of the young guys and drops their confidence even lower (Remember, these guys want it badly, and as much as they get bashed, it hurts them the most)

His ERA is 11.94 since the All Star break so I'm not sure how people can say he can't be worse than Hunter or Britton. The only reason his overall ERA is at 5.52 is because he was ridiculously lucky at the beginning of the year.

Everyone has a rough streak and he is going through his. A change of scenery could do him good.

How would he be any better than what we have on the team now, or have waiting at AAA?

Experience. He's a sinker baller so the balls shouldn't be flying out of the yard.

I was referring to Damon. I'd take a minor league flyer on Lowe.

He can pitch well he has shown that this year and if he doesn't work out oh well we don't lose anything. We can send him down too.

My two moves:
-- DFA Ford, sign Damon
-- DFA Gregg, sign Lowe
