Miguel Chalas 7/31 Start

Miguel Chalas 7/31 Start

PostPost #1 by adonijah1510 » July 31st, 2012, 3:19 pm

Can Chalas bounce back after a rough start and improve to his tenth win of the season for Delmarva? Chalas has a much better ERA and batting average at home then on the road. ERA is 3.97 at home compared to a 6.16 on the road, also a batting avwrage of. 329 on the road compared to a .250 at home. Hopefully he can continue to rack up the K's averaging 3.5 a game and over his last 5 starts only one game with less than 5 K's. Over his last ten starts he's given up only 8 runs in 5 starts at home, while allowing 17 over his last 5 away games. Hopefully he can cut down on the hits allowing over 5 a game and get back to not allowing the long ball which he did in last game giving up 2 HRs but only allowing 4 in his previous 15 games.

He's a fun one to watch. I'm a pretty big fan of him although I question whether he can stick in rotation. Think bullpen is more likely and he could rocket through system if placed there. I'm 100% fine with what they are doing with him now though. He's pretty young and raw still and has some mechanical issues to work out from what I've heard.

Tim has seen him since the beginning of the year and I bet would say he's been much improved in the second half.

Chalas started the game off with a 12 pitch inning facing 5 batters. Gave up a lead off double followed by a bunt to move runner to third. Dugan came up 3rd and took a 1-1 pitch and put it way out of the park for a 2 run HR. Then took 3 pitches to finish off the side. Didn't pitch more then 3 pitches to any batter but gave up 2 runs on 3 hits.

Unfortunately not in attendance tonight (family stuff). Has improved as the season has progressed. Control has improved greatly recently with no more than 2BB in any of last 6 starts.

His delivery needs a lot of work and I definitely do not see him as a starter long term. Has got to learn to keep the ball in the park.

Chalas throws a 7 pitch 2nd after giving up 2 singles to start inning Lino bunted into 1-5-3 DP. Next batter pop out to end inning good way to work out of early jam in 2nd but continues to keep pitch count down and not go past 3 pitches to a batter on throwing 2 pitches to each batter in 2nd. Delmarva is still having no offense making it 10 innings in a row of scoreless ball.

I just wanted to say thank you for posting these everynight. It's really great reading these threads about these guys rather than just looking at a box score.

Chalas gave up another lead off double, moved over on a sack bunt. Chalas then got himself a K for the second out and got a ground out to strand the runner at 3rd and move out of the inning. Still very efficient Delmarva still swinging and missing with only thing to look at was a nice double by Ohlman.

What's Chalas throwing tonight velocity wise?

Also, Ohlman has been coming on as of late, too bad he basically is a DH right now.

Chalas has a 13 pitch 4th facing 5 batters giving up a unearned run. After a lead off single and a BB Pena committed a E4 to first allowing a run in. Next batter up Espisito committed a E5 to first no runs scored followed up by a DP to end the inning only allowing 4 of the batters to look at more then 2 pitches. The error monster continues to follow Chalas as he gets 2 in the 4th.

Sounds about right. Delmarva has been dreadful defensively all year. And in general, A ball defense is pretty bad.

Chalas makes it through 2/3 of the inning before being removed. After a lead off walk Chalas piked off Carver at 1st then gets his second out on ground out followed by a HBP. Dugan after being HBP goes to second on pass ball then drove home by a Carmona single followed by a 2 run HR by Franco ending his outing. He's replaced by Eric Wooten who strikes out last batter of inning. Espicito then comes in at the bottom of inning with a line drive homer.

Final line Chalas: 4.2 IP 8 H 6 R 5 ER 2 BB 1 SO

Not a very good outing allowing ever lead off batter on and giving up to many long balls and not getting his normal amount of Ks

Wooten works a fast inning after giving up a 6 pitch single to start inning Lino cam up and grounded into double play on first pitch. Wooten then ended the inning on a 3 pitch strike out.

The worst D I saw this year in person was when I went to Fredrick the night Bundy made his first start up there they were horrible.
