Could Ryan Flaherty be on his way out when Andino comes back?

Could Ryan Flaherty be on his way out when Andino comes back?

PostPost #1 by Jordan Tuwiner » July 29th, 2012, 8:56 pm

When Andino returns I think the O's will hold on to Omar Quintanilla.

That leaves Ryan Flaherty or Lew Ford to be removed from the 25-man roster when Andino comes back. Who goes?

I believe it will be Ford but this has been the only time so far this season where I could really see Flaherty going.

Duquette is such a wild card that nobody can really predict anything with this 25 man roster (or should I say 24). He gets rid of his only two right handed options on the bench to get a past his prime left handed hitting DH and a glove first left handed hitting infielder all while leaving a glove first left handed hitting 4th OF on the roster. Quintanilla has been great offensively so far but who knows if it will last. Add onto that the fact he seems to hate having a long reliever on the team even though only one starter can be consistently relied on for 5+ innings.

I really do think the man is crazy and while I may disagree with a lot of his moves the team is over .500 so good for him. No clue what will happen with this roster in the next two days.

Why not Chavez? I would prefer to keep Ford over Chavez assuming he's not a terrible defender.

Not sure how he is defensively but he sure does have a cannon for an arm and hustles like crazy. I have to imagine he would be an upgrade to Chavez.

IMO a person would have to have visited the discount lobotomy clinic three times in the same week in order to think it was a good idea to get rid of Flaherty or Ford before Chavez.

Doubt Flaherty's going anywhere at this point. They've held on to him for this long and now they're only 32 days away from rosters expanding

He'll be kept. But what was Showalter thinking by benching him after he finally starts to put some hits together?

I'd rather keep Flaherty than Andino in the long run. Chavez needs to go.

I would be surprised if RF was cut loose after coming this far with the team. I think Lew Ford goes back to Norfolk and returns when there is an injury 8-)

To demote Lew Ford, he would have to clear waivers and at this point in the season he probably would not. He has no options remaining that I am aware of. His contract was purchased by the Orioles and would need to stay on the 25 Man Roster.
Endy Chavez would have a better chance of clearing waivers and then he would have to accept an assignment in the Minors or become a free agent. I seriously doubt we would end up returning Flaherty to the Cubs as he also would not clear waivers.

Quintanilla has been killing it and that is who took over for him at 2B. I'm not sure how you can criticize that move.

He was benched before that. And he can play other positions too.

He's been benched the entire season. He was platooning at 2B with Tolleson when Andino got hurt and was replaced by Quintanilla.
