Offensively he has been down for the last 2 seasons and he's not good defensively at 3B. I'm not saying he is bad but I wouldn't want to give up a lot for him based on what he once was.

I think Hanley is your prototypical "bounceback" trade target.
I know Don mentioned on twitter he thought Josh Johnson was the same.

As long as Bundy or Machado are not traded for either, I don't have a problem if they got either of Hanley or Josh. Of course, I'll hold my reaction towards this until I see what/if anything happens

Where would you have him play? He didn't adapt to 3B. He hasn't been a solid defender at SS for a couple of years, and we don't have an opening at DH. Even if we did I find it difficult to believe that ego would accept being a DH at this point in his career.

The ONLY way I could see this working is if Buck sticks his foot WAY up Hanley's butt and tells him to cut the s**t and play ball like a ML 3B.

Hanley's D at 3B shouldn't be a problem for the orioles! The bat is an upgrade so he can easily be an upgrade.

I've always been intrigued by the thought of moving Hanley to LF. Way way way jumping ahead here, but just have always thought that Marlins should test it.

He hasn't been much better than Betemit this season. Talent wise it's not even close but he hasn't performed up to his talent since 2010.

Again, maybe I'm crazy, but I'd rather trade for Headley than trade for Hanley.

I've always been intrigued by the thought of moving Hanley to LF.

How would HE react to that? His attitude towards moving to 3B this year hasn't been a shining example of "team first". Would the middle of a pennant race be the best time to make such a transition?

Not crazy. Just think Headley actually might cost more at this stage. And with Hanley you hope he gains his old form (you also probably pay for that too)

I also have been advocating that Betemit has been better than people realized this year. Imagine if he wasn't forced into roles he shouldnt have been in

According to that tweet the asking price for Hanley "isn't ridiculous", so if we can get him for something reasonable (that's not named Bundy and Machado), I'd take it in a second.

I would greatly prefer Josh Johnson to Hanley. Hanley is a notorious "bad clubhouse" guy and underacheiver, doesn't play good defense at 3B, and hasn't been anything special offensively over the past 2 years.

I would like to see the O's get Johnson and Carlos lee in a deal with the Marlins. Johnson is injury prone but is a true ace IMO (although unproven in the AL) and Lee would be an upgrade over Reynolds at 1B.
