Game 1: Red Sox @ Orioles 3/31/2014 OPENING DAY!

Game 1: Red Sox @ Orioles 3/31/2014 OPENING DAY!

We don't have a lineup as this is posted because there's a question about whether Nick Markakis will be able to play.

Tillman (Bal) v. Lester (Bos) 3:05 EDT start.

The game will be telecast on MASN, WJZ, and ESPN2; and broadcast on WBAL. If you're outside their market you can listen or watch the game on MLB.com. There's a fee, but IMO it's well worth it. The WBAL broadcast will be available on XM Sirius.

The Orioles have won 11 of their last 13 openers and are 3-0 under manager Buck Showalter.

The last time they played in March, they lost 6-2 to the Rays in 2008. Jeremy Guthrie, Matt Albers and Brian Burres pitched for the Orioles. Luis Hernandez, the team's last rookie to get the nod in an opener, started at shortstop and was replaced by Brandon Fahey after Jay Payton pinch-hit for him.

Gonna have to listen to beginning on the radio. Was supposed to be home by now. Stuck sitting outside my son's Dr. office waiting for him and my wife. Oh well, such is life I guess

Good first inning for Tillman. Two Ks, but you would like to see him get three outs on less than 20 pitches. Of course, the Red Sox were the best team in baseball last year at taking pitches which might explain why they won the WS.

IMO this was the best that Tillman has looked all spring.

Tillman seemed to lose the plate at the beginning of the inning, but he recovered nicely. Hopefully, he'll be able to start getting some 10 pitch innings.

Nelson Cruz played an acceptable RF in ST, but he doesn't look very comfortable in LF.

OK Tillman gets out of a jam in the second. But already that pitch count is starting to escalate (38). A true ace has to be more efficient.

I don't see him as an ace. IMO he's a below average #2 with the potential to be a below average #1.

First runner at 3B with less than two outs of the season. Let's see if they can convert.

Weeelllll, that's NOT the way you're supposed to do it, but at least they got the run.

Same result. Another escape accomplished. But that pitch count isn't pretty (60ish) and he's only gotten through three.

Tillman has been dancing in a minefield through three innings. I hope he doesn't start landing on things that go BOOM.

Tillman managed to hold the Sux to just one run, BUT IMO a #1 SP NEEDS to get more than 15 outs in a start.
