Like fellow prospect Sean Gleason, Cole McCurry‘s switch to the bullpen has brought new life to his prospect status. McCurry was drafted by the Orioles in the 43rd round of the 2007 draft out of Tennessee Wesleyan. He was sent to the GCL immediately after signing, where he began what has been a dominant minor league career.

In 2008, McCurry began his first full pro season by putting up a 2.76 ERA in 15 starts for Aberdeen, which earned him a promotion to Delmarva. His ERA rocketed after moving up to the South Atlantic League, but he maintained strong walk and strikeout rates.

The one thing I will say with Cole, Wynn, and Sean is look beyond the number. Each pitcher has something that would make them a valuable piece in any bullpen.

Wynn has a 1/2 punch that should allow him to be a better relief pitcher, he has a solid sinking 2 seam and slider that would play well in Camden.

McCurry has the stuff to be a nightmare for left handed batters and it is no surprise the Orioles have not added left handed relievers (even though Eveland, Wada, etc... fit that mold out of the rotation.)

Gleason has a power arm and in short stints he will dial it and blow it by you. I think he can live off his two team fastball in small doses and he can pull the string on his split finger change up.
