8/12/12 Minor League Gameday Thread

Aberdeen: Kevin Gausman


Jordan and I will be at Aberdeen for Gausman's first start there. We will have updates, video, etc.

Beautiful day here at Ripken Stadium.

8 pitch first inning from gausman. He was around 94-95 and simply attacks hitters.

He gave up a liner to RF but the 3 outs were a weak pop up to 2nd, weak fly out to LF, and a dribbler to 3B. Looks fantastic.

22 pitches thru 2 innings for Gausman. Fastball around 94, change up around 83.
2K's in the second inning, one on change on on fastball.

He is breezing.

only one hit, and every batter looked absolutely fooled.
I think this guy Gausman is pretty good. Of course we all know he is well beyond the NYPL

How agressive do you think the o's are going to be with him? Will he perhaps start next year at Federick?

The general consensus is that he is already ready for there.
So yup, that's probably where he starts.

Good stuff. Did you stay an watch Coffey? His line looks pretty good but I wondered what your thoughts on him were if you were able to get a good look.

Coffey still is not showing the velocity hoped for. Sitting around 88. His secondary pitches were impressive today and it's the best I have seen him pitch so far with Aberdeen.


Tommy Winegardner hit 93 MPH twice today and was mostly around 90 MPH. I was actually impressed with him.

That's a shame. Coffey was throwing laser beams in HS.

He was touching 95 at times. Not sure what's going on, but clearly not the same guy then. Will be interesting to see how he looks next season.

Just read this latest piece from Steve Melewski that he wrote following Gausman's start today....the basic gist is that Petersen was very impressed with Gausman's ability to work primarily fastball/change and have a ton of success hitting the bottom portion of the zone consistently. Sounds like the O's might be reconsidering Gausman's track to finish the year. I think it's very likely that he could make a start or two at Delmarva before the year is up.
