Williams Louico 8/1 Start Delmarva

Williams Louico 8/1 Start Delmarva

PostPost #1 by adonijah1510 » August 1st, 2012, 2:23 pm

A guy that looked to take a few years to find himself in th DSL starting his minor league career in 08 with a record of 0-6 and a ERA of 6.56 playing in 15 games with 6 starts. In 09 as mostly a bullpen man he only had 3 starts over 27 games he played also collecting 2 saves all while posting a ERA of 2.01 and a record of 2-3. Over the next 2 seasons in the DSL he became a starter racking up 13 wins and 7 loses including 1 complete game. His ERA over those two seasons as a starter were 2.71 and 2.10. A guy who seems to have a control issue rendering alot of walks his whole career which has spilled over to this season which has seem him give up 37 walks while only collecting 28 K's. Since moving to Delmarva and starting the season of in the pen he has become a starter over his last 5 outings. He's been having a ruff go in 39 innings pitched he's given up 37 walks, 36 hits, and 37 runs. Over his last 2 starts on the road his ERA has been 32.40 and 47.25 a scary set of number not making it out the 2nd inning in either start this combined with the birds only scoring 1 run in last two games spells disaster for Delmarva tonight. Maybe something will click and Williams will go back to his lower level form and try to give a decent respectable performance.

Well Wiiliams starts off ruff with a HBP followed by allowing Carver to steal second. Stassi flys out moving runner over to 3rd, then Dugan grounds out bringing in the 1st run of the game. Carmona walks but Williams draws a double play to end the inning.

Williams continues to have control problems as he walks the first batter then on two passed balls with Lino up to bat moving runner to 3rd. Lino eventually walks and with the 3rd wild pitch of inning Alverez scores and Lino to second. After 2 line outs Stassi singles in Lino making it 3-3, Stassi then gets caught trying to steal second to end inning.

Juan Guzman comes in to replace Williams in 6th. Guzman comes in with 2 K's a walk and a fly out to end the 6th very efficiently.

Williams Final Line: 5 IP 1 H 3 ER 5 BB 1 K

Much better performance then he's recently had kept hits down but keeps up giving walks up with only 1 K. If he can only get his walks down and gain some control to his pitches would be a great step forward.

Williams continued to have control issues with walks and wild pitches but kept his hits down and only gave up 3 runs over five innings. Guzman came in in relief for his first Delmarva appearance and didn't disappoint with 3 innings with 4 K's giving up 1 run allowing just 1 H and 1 BB. Petersime came in the 9th allowing 1 run over 2 hits with a K to keep the lead and get the save allowing Guzman to get a win in his first appearance in Delmarva. Webb had 3 K's in the game but drew a timley walk in the 8th to get a run which helped with the win. Birds get 3 double over 12 hits in the game leaving 8 runners on and goin 3 for 11 with runners in scoring position.

As I posted on Twitter, Diaz waited too long to put up the stop sign as Delmonico was rounding third. Looked like the sudden stop may have jarred the knee again. He later scored before leaving the game. After being pulled Will Longhorn took him into the clubhouse for about 15-20 minutes at which time Nicky returned to the dugout for the remainder of the game. Precautionary? Hopefully, but honestly I don't know.

Reminded me a lot of Tyler Townsend being stopped too late by Ryan Minor in 2010.

Louico needs a lot, and I mean a lot of work on his control. One hit sounds like he pitched well, but as someone who sits about 60 feet from the plate, trust me, he didn't. I get trying to keep the ball down in the zone, but he was constantly in the dirt and hitters were not biting.

I did like what I saw from Guzman in his first outing here. Breaking stuff is nasty, but I expected a little more from the FB.

Givens has three hits tonight, but I still think he is destined for the mound.
