When I wrote that a few weeks ago I didn't know enough about Cespedes to predict whether he was more interested in winning or the money. It appears he chose the money.

There's no question that signing with Oakland will almost certainly allow him to play in the majors the fastest, but he is going to play in a stadium that will not showcase his abilities and for a team that may lose more than 90 games the next two seasons or longer. That makes this a MONEY decision.

His choice makes me happy we didn't try to beat Oakland's offer, or even match it. I'm sorry we couldn't add a player with his talent to our system, but the player I wanted (a guy that REALLY cared about winning) apparently never existed.
