I would be fine giving him a three year deal, depending on the money. This guy is a ~3.5 WAR pitcher, which is worth about $15-17 million per year. I see nothing wrong giving him a 3-year, $45 million deal.

Here is Jackson's line when he was at Tampa. It's NOT spectacular and IMO is not worth even 10M a year much less 15M. I just see him as a prototypical NL pitcher.

Maybe I'm dancing to a different tune than everyone else at the hop but I think we should be focusing on acquiring players that will either BE a productive part of the 2014/2015 teams or we should be acquiring players that WE CAN CONVERT INTO players that will BE a productive part of the 2014/2015 teams. If we signed Jackson at 3 years/45M, do you think we can trade that contract next year or the year after for quality prospects straight up? I don't.
Beat me up if you feel the need but I just think that trading for A J Burnett at 5M on each of his last two contract years is actually a lesser risk than Jackson and has a higher upside. I also think he has more trade value. If you disagree, please explain why.
