O's considering Johnny Damon

According to MLBTR, the Orioles are considering signing Johnny Damon. For me this feels very similar to the signing of Vlad last year. A retread who really doesn't have much utility outside of the DH position and will not provide anything towards the redevelopment of this organization. He doesn't bring huge pop to the lineup and isn't really a feared hitter. His .263 average from last year is below that of Vlad and no one was really happy with Vlad's production from last year.

The ONLY way I can see him helping the team is if he accepts being a part time role player (LH DH) with no more than 300 ABs. I have my doubts. The problem is that Luke Scott wouldn't accept it, neither would Jay Payton or Melvin Mora.

Maybe the thinking is that he will be a good influence and example in the clubhouse and they can get something for him in July.

I ready about this two weeks ago in the Boston Globe and I'm onboard with this move. Johnny is a very good clubhouse guy and that supposedly is an area we have had issues. I think he could be very productive for us

Remember, Johnny Damon owns the flag court at OPCY (although that was always against Oriole pitching...) I would love to see him in an O's uniform this year.

Not sure why they would need Damon. Reimold's cheaper and has more room to improve while Damon's on the decline.

Damon could be a platoon DH and not effect Reimold's time in LF. If they plan to bring Damon in to take playing time away from Reimold or even play the field at all I think that would be ridiculous.

Who would he replace on the Forty Man Roster that would have LESS up-side than he (Damon) has???

Good clubhouse presence, leadership etc. are good things for players who can still play but that's all he would offer. He's hit 8 and 16 homeruns in the last two years in 613 and 647 plate appearances so 20 would be a bit of a stretch even if he played full time, which I don't think anyone wants. You wouldn't want him in the field at this point so he'd essentially be a league average DH with little to no pop. But I guess he's got all those intangibles.
