D'Backs Want Young Pitching From O's For Kubel

The Diamondbacks are looking to get young pitching from the Orioles in a trade for outfielder Jason Kubel, but Baltimore has been disinclined to do that to this point, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Arizona has a surplus of outfielders and some believe that they would prefer to trade Kubel than Justin Upton at this stage.

Kubel hit .253/.327/.506 with a career-high 30 home runs in 141 games with Arizona last year. The 30-year-old is due to earn $7.5MM in 2013 with a mutual option for the same amount in 2014.

No thankyou. I wouldn't even give up Matusz, our youngest pitcher with the lowest value IMO, for one year of Kubel.
1.) only one more year left on his contract
2.) bad defensively
3.) would HARDLY be an upgrade over Betemit or McLouth

With all due respect to Mark Reynolds, who worked hard to be a team player, Kubel just seems like another Mark Reynolds was when he first came here. I'd like to think we have moved on from that.

IMO giving up a bunch of talent for Upton (an OF) make LESS sense than giving up our first round pick for LaRoche.

upton might be worth the pitching talent it would require. Bundy aside, I would explore the possibilities because of the great offensive potential

Kubel is a hard NO. Upton is atractive because of his age. His stats would most likely improve playing in Camden Yards

According to Rosenthal, we made an aggressive push for Upton recently but talks have cooled. Speculation has it AZ wanted Bundy or Machado and we said "Good Day" and rightfully so. I wonder if Arrieta, Matusz and Schoop could get this done since Gausman cannot be moved right now???

If I had to weigh my opinion I would say that the Orioles brass isn't convinced about Reimold. It's also hard to overlook 30 homeruns and 90 rbis. Especially if the this statement is true from MLB Rumors:

"The asking price for Kubel is dropping and Baltimore would be a logical landing spot for him, Olney tweets. Earlier today it was reported that the O's are pursuing Kubel but talks are not yet at an advanced stage."

I don't really see how this has anything to do with Reimold. If management was worried about Reimold, then they would be going after a right-handed bat. I doubt he will repeat his 30 homeruns. He ran in to a power streak July and that supplied about a third of his bombs. He has been close to 30 homeruns only one other time in his career. He provides no defensive value, no speed, and little production against LHP. AKA a more expensive, less versatile Wilson Betemit.
