Would Somebody PLEASE Explain WHY Kevin Gregg Is Still Here?

Would Somebody PLEASE Explain WHY Kevin Gregg Is Still Here?

After today's STELLAR performance all the polishing in the World won't allow them to make that (you know what) look good to another team. PLEASE, for the love of George Bamberger, let's DFA this guy and bring up Steve Johnson so we can have a long reliever in the pen.

No it doesnt say how we can fix this problem, but I think we should send him down to AAA for some work and bring up somebody that can serve as a long reliever.

At this stage in his career he can't be optioned without his permission. If we try and he refuses he gets his release and we have to pay the remainder of his contract.

On Gregg: Innings mop up guy
On Britton: Does NOT belong on a Major League Roster and probably not AAA either 8-)

Our options
a. pay him to pitch poorly
b. pay him to go away

I'm in favor of b because that gives an up and comer a chance in the show. Is his roster spot worth the 3-4Million dollars it would cost to dump him. That is DD's decision......

I agree but I think at this point it is clear he is staying on the roster no matter what.

Derek Lowe could come and take his spot. Throw Britton or someone in for long relief.

Correct, it's a pointless discussion.

The Orioles have sold Pat Neshek (2.66 ERA, a 7.00 K/BB ratio and 49 strikeouts in 35 relief appearances in 44 innings at AAA) to the A's for cash and kept Kevin Gregg.

UN...BLIKEN...BELIEVABLE.

I think it came down to Neshek vs. O'Day. Two weeks ago, I would have thought they might be trading places but lately O'Day has been solid. I think that sealed Neshek's departure. Just my two cents 8-)

Im a huge DD/Buck fan but this is one i really dont get. Could it be a PA thing where he refuses to pay someone for nothing?? Even if he was kept to get a good run for some kind of trade value doesnt add up either cuz he's had a protected run but still here. I do believe this move could hurt us. I have followed his appearances all year and have noticed that there were too many games where Ayala, ODay, Patton or Strop pitched where a desent 7th bullpen guy should of been in there to keep the game reasonable or eat some innnings. Because of this, those mentioned have 3-6 more appearances or innings than they should.. It all adds up. Could you imagine how fresh our bullpen would be if Gregg's spot had 50 innings in?

We would of been better off with a long man or even Rapada. Other than the work the O's did against him this past week he has had a good year. At least he would of pitched in the tough situations and took some stress off the later innings. Patton then would of taken more innings as the long man.
