"Duquette would like to add a table-setter to top the lineup"

"Duquette would like to add a table-setter to top the lineup"

Add a high on-base percentage table-setter to the Orioles' wish list of major needs this month.

Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette said Wednesday that bolstering the club’s starting pitching remains a priority, whether it comes internally or through a trade, but he also is actively searching for a “set-up hitter” with a history of getting on-base.

“We have to address the on-base percentage at the top of our lineup,” Duquette said. “We had a really good on-base man inNolan [Reimold] out there and he did a good job, but we aren’t going to have him.”

Markakis coming back should help.

Saw Jon of Camden Depot mention Marco Scutaro as a potential option.
Would be intriguing and could sure up 2nd base a little better.

Scutaro or, keeping with the Colorado trend, perhaps Dexter Fowler? .300/.389/.578, slugging probably helped by the nature of his home field, but he could potentially hit leadoff and play in left. I guess the question would be what would it take to get him...not sure the Rockies would want Reynolds, they kinda had that in Ian Stewart a few years back.

Dexter is one of my favorite players in the game. I'd probably streak down Baltimore naked if we got him.

I'm not even joking. I'd probably do that.
He would cost and arm and a leg though and they would be nuts to trade him

Lol. It'd at least be worth looking into if I'm DD. The only other guys I see on the top OBP list that might not cost an arm and a leg are Jason Kubel and David DeJesus. The rest of the top 40 are either superstars we'd have to give up somebody big for, or somebody who the team just isn't gonna trade unless we hand over Jones, Wieters, Markakis, Bundy and Machado.

Dexter Fowler at Coors - .338/.437/.648
Dexter Fowler away from Coors - .250/.322/.417

He's hardly worth an arm and a leg IMO.

he's 26 and was much more raw than your typical prospect. His skill set in just about what you want in any OF. He's going to cost a lot to get probably.

Those stats are for this season not for his career.

yep, still think he would cost a lot.
Not quite sure he would be the best option for the Orioles though.

The only thing that MIGHT make him not cost a lot would be he is arb eligible next season and depending on how the Rockies feel, they could see him as a salary dump.

I'm not saying he wouldn't cost a lot I'm saying he isn't worth a lot.

From FanGraphs:

http://www.fangraphs.com/splits.aspx?pl ... &type=full

His AVG at home was actually lower than his away AVG. OBP was pretty much the same in '11 home vs. away, and slugging was modestly higher at home. Perhaps he's not worth what the Rockies may be asking, but that means if they get desperate his price might come down.

I can agree with that. He's the type of player you get and hope takes it to next level though.

I second that. Although at 26 the question "is this his ceiling?" does have to be in the back of your mind.

Back to the discussion, I would love to get DeJesus. He was one of my top targets I was hoping they would sign this off season and I have no idea why they were never even linked to him. He gets on base and plays good defense aka exactly what the O's need.

It was the same thing with Adam Jones this off-season. As of now, it seems he took it to the next level.
