Chris Tillman started the game for the Birds, and let up one run in two innings; a Ryan Howard RBI double in the 1st. Top prospect Zach Britton made his spring debut following Tillman, throwing two innings of shutout baseball (2 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 33 pitches, 18 strikes).
Markakis’ Two Homers Lead Way As O’s Win Ed Smith Opener
This game was in the books after just two innings as the Orioles lineup hit home runs galore early on off of Andy Sonnanstine. With Jeremy Guthrie pitching perfectly through six Rays batters, the Birds took an early 6-0 lead. Jump-started by a 2-RBI shot from Nick Markakis in the first, he was followed by solo shots from Vladimir Guerrero, Adam Jones, and Jake Fox.
