Position Player of the Week – Christian Walker (Double-A, Bowie)
.458/.500/.833 (11/24) with 3 2B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 2 BB, 5 K
Walker is hitting much better in 2014. He looks to be in better shape this season, which has made his bat path through the zone a tick quicker. He also is getting a second look at the Eastern League after a 17-game cup of coffee last season. While I still have my reservations on the impact in Walker’s bat, I will be the first person to admit there has been notable improvements in his game.
Starting Pitcher of the Week – Hunter Harvey, RHP, (Low-A, Delmarva)
2 GS, 11.2 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 15 K
Harvey had one start full of domination, where he struck out 10 batters and demonstrated just how deadly he can be against a lineup. His second start of the week was not as crisp, but I was told that he was clearly working on his change and that there were not many balls hit hard. It’s scary to think that Harvey still has development left in his arsenal, as the stuff is already nasty.
Relief Pitcher of the Week – Jon Keller, RHP (Low-A, Delmarva)
2 G, 6.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 7 K
This is the third time in 2014 that Keller has been awarded our reliever of the week. Keller has slowly began to build some innings and become stretched out, as he is now seeing 3.0 innings an appearance compared to 2.0 in the beginning of the season. With a lively fastball that can hit 95+ mph on the regular and a slider with a lot of potential, it may soon be time to move him into the rotation and really work on the change up. Keller has been one of the best relievers in the SALLY.
