ON Top 50 Prospects 2013 – #47: Zach Clark

Published by Jordan Tuwiner on November 12, 2012

#46 – Tyler Kelly →

Background

zach clark

Clark is finally on a 40-man roster after seven years in the minors.

Zach Clark is finally on a 40-man roster after seven years in the minor leagues. He’s also very likely to see the majors in 2013.

Clark pitched to a 3.19 ERA in 121.1 innings with Bowie last year, and added 38 walks, 66 strikeouts, and a 2.23 GO/AO ratio. He had pitched at Norfolk prior to 2012, but received an extended stay this time. He pitched 46.1 innings for the Tides in 2012 and recorded 32 strikeouts and held opposing hitters to a .228 average.

Scouting Report

Clark’s somewhat limited arsenal of a fastball, curve, and cutter makes him more of a reliever going forward even though he’s started throughout most of his minor league career.

His stuff is not overpowering, but he understands how to move the ball within the strikezone and has solid command of his arsenal.

Future

It’s unlikely that Clark opens the 2013 season in the majors, but he provides solid depth at the AAA level. He could be one of the first pitchers called up should an injury occur to an Orioles reliever.
