Ty Kelly has always been somewhat under the radar, but it’s hard to ignore a player that consistently hits and does so even as he moves up and faces better competition.
Put simply, Kelly’s numbers with the Frederick Keys were video game like. He hit .346 with a .460 OBP, smashed 9 home runs, and walked more than he struck out.
After Kelly’s domination of the Carolina League, the Orioles moved him up to Bowie where he played the final 46 games of the season. His numbers dropped off slightly, but he still hit .308 with the Baysox, walked in more than 10% of his plate appearances, and posted a .384 OBP.
Kelly has been thought of as more of an organizational player, but if he keeps hitting he’ll eventually force his way into the major leagues at some point. He’ll likely remain at Bowie for the start of the 2013 season.
