Orioles Spring Training Notes: 4/3/12

Published by Tucker Blair on April 3, 2012

Each night, Orioles Nation will set you up with reading material that includes the latest news, notes and links from writers covering Orioles spring training in Sarasota.

The Orioles held an exhibition game against SCF today.

Their final spring training record was 11-13-6.

Notes

  • The Cincinnati Reds have claimed Pitcher Alfredo Simon off waivers, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Dan Connolly. He had been placed on waivers over the weekend.
  • The Orioles made two more cuts today, reassigning Pat Neshek to AAA and outrighting Jai Miller to AAA after he cleared waivers, according to MASN’s Roch Kubatko.
  • Tsuyoshi Wada will start the season on the 15-day disabled list, according to Kubatko. He will make two starts in the minors and build his pitch count up.
  • Former Orioles Pitcher Jason Johnson was in camp today to throw for the team and is hopeful to get a spot in extended spring training, according to Kubatko. He had surgery to repair a torn labrum  two years ago and is reportedly throwing up to 92 MPH again.
  • Chipper Jones told ESPN’s Buster Olney that Jason Hammel impressed him the most this spring with his increased velocity.
