Orioles Spring Training Notes: 3/31/12

The Orioles tied 6-6 against the Pittsburgh Pirates today.

Their current spring training record stands at 11-12-6.

Notes

  • The game was delayed 46 minutes by rain before the top of the seventh.
  • Ronny Paulino went 1-3 with a 3-Run HR.
  • Jai Miller went 2-3 with a Solo HR.
  • Aaron Baker had a pinch hit HR.
  • Wilson Betemit went 2-3
  • Jake Arrieta pitched 5 innings with 8 H, 6 R, 5 K, 2 BB allowed. He threw 82 pitches, 55 for strikes. He topped out at 97 MPH, but mainly stayed around 94-95 MPH.
  • Kevin Gregg pitched an inning with 0 H, 0 R, 0 K, 1 BB allowed.
  • Darren O’Day pitched an inning with 1 H, 0 R, 1 K, 0 BB allowed.
  • Jim Johnson pitched an inning with 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB allowed. He topped out at 95 MPH today
  • Pedro Strop pitched an inning with 0 H, 0 R, 1 K, 1 BB allowed.

 

  • The Orioles have optioned Chris Tillman to AAA, according to MASN’s Roch Kubatko.
  • Catcher Brian Ward is facing a 50-game suspension after violating baseball’s drug policy, according to Kubatko.
  • Xavier Avery will be assigned to AAA. LJ Hoes assigned to AA, according to Kubatko.
  • Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop will both be assigned to AA Bowie. Dylan Bundy will be assigned low A Delmarva, according to Kubatko.
  • Severna Park native Josh Banks has been released, according to MASN’s Steve Melewski.
  • Alfredo Simon, whom was placed on waivers, thinks he will be claimed by another team. If not, he said he would elect free agency, according to MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli.
