Orioles Spring Training Notes: 2/18/12

Published by Jordan Tuwiner on February 18, 2012

Each night, Orioles Nation will set you up with reading material that includes the latest news, notes and links from writers covering Orioles spring training in Sarasota.

Notes

  • The Orioles have 31 pitchers at big league camp, according to MASN’s Roch Kubatko.
  • Zach Britton is scheduled to throw today, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with Wednesday being his rest day. He plans to throw off a mound in 2 weeks, according to Kubatko.
  • Showalter says he will take it slow at first with Jim Johnson, who’s dealing with some “patella stuff & lower-back things”. It is nothing serious, according to Kubatko.
  • LHP Ryan Edell, who signed a minor league deal, isn’t expected in camp and it looks like he is going to retire, according to Kubatko
  • Adam Jones says the Orioles are “[going] to shock the world” in a recent Tweet: “We’re gonna shock the world for all u morons thinkin we won’t. Everyone is 0-0 today. We all are on our mission. Starts today.”
  • Orioles pitcher Wei-Yin Chen said he’d like to play in the majors for “10 years or longer”, according to MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli.
  • Brian Roberts has reported to camp, but not in sight of the media. Showalter said he was upbeat and looked good, according to The Baltimore Sun’s Peter Schmuck.
