Andy MacPhail Stepping Down As Orioles GM

Published by Jordan Tuwiner on October 7, 2011

We’ll be live blogging everything related to Andy MacPhail and the GM position here. Discuss the move in our forums here.

10:12 PM:

A small but important detail I forgot to post is that MacPhail is not only out as GM, but will not return in any capacity.

9:38 PM:

MLBTR:
MacPhail, 58, has served as Baltimore’s president of baseball operations since June 20, 2007. The Orioles had a 307-433 record under MacPhail’s watch, never winning more than 69 games in his 4.5 years with the team.

9:38 PM:

Don would also like to see the Orioles consider Dan Jennings.

9:32 PM:

Don’s current top choices include Tony LaCava, John Coppolella, and Thad Levine.

9:31 PM:

To be clear, Macphail could have returned and was weighing offer to do so. Is now expected to take time off away from baseball. #oriolesSat Oct 08 01:30:13 via Twitter for AndroidBrittany Ghiroli

Be sure to check out Don’s post on possible MacPhail replacements. The names include John Coppolella, Ben Cherington, Tony LaCava, and Mike Chernoff.

9:27 PM:

Here’s a great point made by Baseball Prospectus’ Kevin Golstein:

Like w/ the Angels, industry wants better feel for what the job IS. RT @Skeletor77 @Kevin_Goldstein any idea who takes over in Baltimore?Sat Oct 08 01:18:33 via UberSocial for AndroidKevin Goldstein
