After speculation today, Derrek Lee has officially been dealt to the Pittsburgh Pirates, who had been interested in the red-hot first baseman for quite some time.
Lee, 35, has hit .248/.306/.409 with 15 doubles and 12 home runs for the O’s this year. In July, Lee has hit .261 with 6 home runs and an .839 OPS.
In return, the Orioles will receive first base prospect Aaron Baker, who was playing with the Pirates’ High-A team: the Bradenton Marauders. Baker, 23, hit .285/.353/.474 for the Marauders this year.
