A Baltimore Orioles Twitter Guide

Published by Jordan Tuwiner on July 18, 2011

Twitter has become an invaluable tool, but even more so for sports fans, journalists, players and bloggers. The ability to follow beat reporters, players, and blogs provides an easy way to browse the latest news, opinions and stories regarding the Orioles all in one place. Even if you’re not tweeting yourself — as in posting messages — you can still follow the Orioles (or any team) with ease.

Twitter has allowed us to interact with, and look into, the everyday lives of athletes in a unique and more personal way. Instead of knowing players through reports and media, Twitter allows you to pose questions and socialize with athletes you watch on TV every day.

Jeremy Guthrie is one of the most followed O’s players on Twitter — and with good reason. He often responds to fans, shares his tastes in music (which, unfortunately, includes Justin Bieber), and his activeness within the Baltimore community is apparent. Without Twitter, fans wouldn’t be able to see this more personal side of Jeremy — at least to the extent that Twitter allows.

Not only is Twitter a strong tool for interacting with players, but beat reporters and journalists often break news with a tweet first before posting it on their blogs.

Simply put, Twitter is — at least to me — essential when it comes to following a baseball team. If you’re not on Twitter I would recommend joining, and here are some accounts that, as an Orioles fan, you should follow from the start.
