Scouting Summary (sources below):
- has been up to 96-97 mph with the fastball
- tall and lanky build
- could start, but more likely a power setup man
- 6′ 5″ frame, but could at 15-20 more pounds
- secondaries have a long way to go
Don’s Thoughts: I have seen Wright live in the Cape League with Harwich, solely as a relief pitcher. He has a very live fastball with solid movement and can reach into the 96-97 mph range. I considered it his only plus pitch and only pitch of quality at the moment.
He has a potential three pitch repertoire that could move him into a starter role, which he did this past season at East Carolina.
I like the fact you can get a guy that can still scratch potential and grow on his 6’5″ frame that could gain another 15-20 pounds as a professional. I feel in the bullpen, he could mimic Dan Klien’s style advancement to the Orioles in short order.
