Position Player of the Month – Jonathan Schoop
Some wondered whether Jonathan Schoop was a legit prospect, and after he put up a .885 OPS in April most began to believe in the SS/3B from Curacao. If April wasn’t enough, Schoop flashed power you rarely see in a prospect his age, with 4 home runs, 7 doubles and a triple in the month of May. His defense has a ways to go, but there’s no doubting Schoop’s offensive ability will make him a top 5 prospect in the system by season’s end.
Starting Pitcher of the Month – Steve Johnson
Bobby Bundy and Oliver Drake were right on Steve Johnson’s heels, but much improve control — just 8 BB in 39 IP — and a 2.31 ERA have earned Johnson the honor of May’s Starting Pitcher of the Month.
Relief Pitcher of the Month – Dan Klein
Dan Klein takes home our Relief Pitcher of the Month Award for the second consecutive month, making him the only reliever to win the award this season. His dominant play at Frederick earned him a promotion to Bowie after just one month, and his performance hasn’t dropped off since he’s joined the Baysox. Klein’s struck out 14 batters in 14.2 innings, while walking just 3 with an ERA of 1.23.
