The Orioles were unable to get the third outs today in Fort Myers against the AL Central Minnesota Twins, a team they lost to just three days prior.
After two fine defensive plays from Josh Bell, including a nice stop on a line drive headed into the outfield, a double from Danny Valencia and a single from Luke Hughes quickly put the Orioles in a 1-0 hole. Jeremy Guthrie was able to get out of the inning but this was not a day for the Orioles’ bats.
Guthrie pitched three innings on the day, allowing two runs while striking out two, and issuing no walks. Rick VandenHurk, who has not been guaranteed a spot on the team, was unable to find his control today, giving up four walks, but was able to get through three frames with only one earned run. Armando Gabino finished the game for the Orioles with a perfect 8th inning.
The Orioles will play their first split-squad games tomorrow, with one group heading to play at Boston and the other staying back in Sarasota to play the Yankees on MASN at 7 PM.
