Zach Britton is the easy choice for our pitcher of the year award, and he would easily win our player of the year award (pitchers & hitters) if we were giving one out. He dominated during his 14 starts in the Eastern League, to the tune of a 2.48 ERA with 68 strikeouts and a 64.1 GB%, and improved after a promotion to Norfolk.

He should be considered, by the media, as a candidate to make the Orioles rotation out of spring training. But with the Orioles’ history of rushing pitchers and watching them bust, I believe they are going to be patient with Britton and give him at least 15 more starts in the minors.

With a plus power sinker, an above-average slider that’s plus at times, a changeup that should become an average pitch and well above-average command, Britton has established himself as a top 2 prospect in the system. He has the chance to become a #2 starter who goes deep into games and racks up 200+ innings consistently.
