Can you please explain your rankings of the RH starters?

Berry – Obvious choice for #1 RHS. Great season, good stuff and has stayed healthy. Only question left is how he’ll handle going more than 5+ innings per start, but he looks like a steal right now.

Bundy – He’s been better than Hobgood this season and at some point, results have to mean more than potential. Bundy and Hobgood are about the same age and right now, Bundy is more advanced and he’ll be the one moving up to Frederick next season.

Erbe – I think a lot of Erbe’s struggles this year were due to injuries, and he’s already proved himself at Bowie. Easy choice over Hobgood and Klein for me.

Hobgood – Has been bothered by injuries all season long, and despite the poor K & BB ratios, he’s still getting a ton of groundballs. Hobgood’s a smart kid and I think he’ll bounce back nicely next season.

Klein – No pro data yet but the 4 pitch repertoire puts him ahead of everyone else in the system, for me.

I assumed you were asking about the top, but if you have a follow up question or wanted to know about the lower rankings, go right ahead and ask.

Noticeable absence for Givens. Is this due to an incomplete given the season ending surgery, or do we need to find a position for him once healthy given the addition of Machado?

That was a mistake on my part. Machado and Givens should definitely be with the Shorebirds next season, where they play is another question…

I agree with all of these except for Hoes over Adams. I can see it. Just wondering why you think hes a better prospect?

The ranking is a basis on age, production, and ceiling. I think Ryan Adams could be the long term answer to replace Brian Roberts. The Orioles organization is clicking thier heels over his major jump at Bowie.

I still feel that with the age and production of L.J Hoes. He has the ceiling that is everyday second baseman, but could be a better version of Rickie Weeks. You have to think he is a better prospect because he is having a good minor league career, so far, against age groups well ahead of him. If I am not mistaken, he is the youngest guy in the Carolina League. When he went to Bowie, the next closest guy in the Eastern League was more than 2 years older than him.

I think this was Jordan’s approach, but on a statistic level it is splitting hairs. I suspect both will be in Orioles uniforms within the next few years, so it is just samantics.

        Alright, thanks!

Don summed it up nicely. Hoes is the second youngest player in the Carolina League and the way he’s controlling the strike zone is impressive. He could provide more defensive value than Adams as well.

Where would you put Wynn Pelzer?

Looks like he didn’t transfer over from the previous draft, but it’s fixed now. He’s the #1 relief prospect in the system.

What do you see Beato’s role being for the o’s and when do you think he will join them? His numbers are really good since he made the move to relief, but why is he still in AA?

There’s a slight chance he becomes a closer, but set-up man is more likely. He should be up late 2011. Due to his struggles last year, I believe they want to take it slowly. The patience will pay off.
