Great game on tap in Georgia tonight with two starters going to next weekends Futures Game. Zach Britton will be going up against Mike Minor, the 7th pick in the 2009 draft. Minor started the year in Single A, was quickly moved to AA, and recently promoted to AAA. Even though he was not known as a strikeout pitcher, he has 118 Ks to 37 BBs in 94.2 IP this year.
It’s definitely an exciting matchup tonight.
Unforunately, a tough night for the Tides and Zach Britton. I guess that he and Minor were both on a 90 pitch count, which was a shame since the game worsened when they both left.
Since the 7/6/10 post is not up yet, I wanted to send out an alert that tomorrow’s game between the Tides and Gwinnet is on the MLB Network at 2:00pm. Troy Patton will be startin for the Tides.
After watching Schoop, I tend to think he has too many flaws in his approach to become a powerful hitter. His hand speed makes up for alot of his mistakes and I have witnessed only Vladimir Guerrero was able to handle a few flaws with production. Give a pitcher a scouting report and watch some tape, he would be a 100% ground out canidate on off-speed outside pitches.
He needs to shorten his stride to the pitcher, keep his hips level (he dips during his stride). His bat is level, but with his hand speed he needs to get it in the zone quicker and more compact. If he starts to make it a slight upper arc swing, he has the hand speed and body frame to be a very productive hitter.
It is encouraging to see production with flaws, but his approach is too sloppy to be in games right now. He would be better long term in Sarasota right now working one on one to fix his approach to the plate.
Thanks for the insight, Don. I think it’s definitely clear he has a long way to go, but he’s certainly someone to watch.
Anyone know much about this guy Enrico Jimenez? I know its a small sample size, but he misses a good number of bats, and anyone he doesn’t K it looks like he gets them to pound it into the ground.

Couldn’t tell you a thing about him…will be at 4 GCL games next week, I’ll take a look and get some video.
Sweeeet, sounds good man….
Where are the GCL Orioles?
The GCL (Gulf Coast League) Orioles play in Sarasota, Florida, right behind Ed Smith Stadium.
Thanks
