Position Player of the Month – L.J. Hoes
It is difficult to choose between Garabez Rosa, Tyler Kolodny, Ronnie Welty and Hoes. Hoes has demonstrated elite plate discipline, and as the second youngest player in the Carolina League, that’s impressive. While the 2/12 K/BB ratio isn’t pretty, more than half of his hits are XBH (25 hits, 12 2B and 1 HR).
Starting Pitcher of the Month – Jake Arrieta
Arrieta is leading the Orioles’ minor leaguers in wins, ERA, IP and WHIP. He’s allowed just 18 hits in 31 innings and opponents are batting .171 against him. Beyond those numbers, Arrieta is keeping the ball on the ground with a 2.05 GO/FO ratio.
Relief Pitcher of the Month – Josh Dowdy
In 6 appearances, Dowdy has 6 saves and 8.2 IP with just one walk and 13 strikeouts. When I was at spring training, Dowdy was hitting 92 mph with his fastball and demonstrating impressive secondary pitches. Multiple players there said Dowdy would be a closer if he added 2-3 mph onto his fastball.
