I was at the Keys game last night, they looked as bad as a team can look. Basically they sucked at every aspect of the game. The one highlight was Welty’s HR, it was a monster blast 400+.

They have been playing well before the past two games though. Welty has lots of pop. How did L.J. Hoes and Xavier Avery look?

I’ve seen Hoes play 5 times this season and Avery twice. I’m impressed so far.

Avery didn’t play well at all, i like his bat but it just wasn’t there last night his biggest issue was he made a couple of mistakes in the outfield. Early in the game he couldn’t get the ball out of his glove on one play which allowed a base hit to turn into a double, from where I was it just looked like he was trying to move too fast, after that he had his head down and just looked dejected the rest of the game (as bad turned to terrible) they pulled him in the eighth inning after a pretty bad error.

Hoes like everyone didn’t do anything with the bat, but his fielding decisions or indecisions were killer. Three times during the game he fielded a ground ball and couldn’t decide what to do with it, the first two he had to decide if he was going to second for the DP try. In my opinion he could have turned both but he decided to turn back to first after turning towards second both times. both times that player on second eventually scored and turning a double play in both situations would have stopped some big innings. The third time he fielded the ball there was a man on third who headed home, Mahoney left first and ran behind the pitchers mound I assume he had tried to make a play on the ball since it was a chopper but who knows what he was thinking. So Hoes looks towards home and decides I need to make the sure out at first. He runs to first right before he steps on the bag he changes his mind and instead throws home about 2 seconds too late and no outs registered. He also had a throw to third get away from him.

All and all it was one of the worst outings for a team i’ve seen this year, but hey that’s baseball and is going to happen they just can’t let a couple of bad bounces snowball into a catastrophe like it did last night.

Thanks for the comment Michael! I really appreciate the info on the away games. Hoes is definitely still learning defense, he’s only been playing 2B for 2 years.

Once again thanks for the information and if you go to more games, I’d like to hear from you again!
