After failing to go more than 4.2 innings in each of his first three outings, Chris Tillman went the distance tonight and pitched a no-hitter for the Tides against the Gwinnett Braves. Tillman’s no-hitter marks the third in team history and the first since 1992.
Tillman’s season statistics:
26.2 IP, 4.05 ERA, 21 K, 5 BB, 24 H, .245 OPP BA
He’s picking up right where he left of last year with the Tides and has nothing else to prove at Triple-A. While Tillman looks like he could handle the big leagues right now, remember, more Triple-A time is never a bad thing.
Note: The picture above is Brian Matusz talking with Chris Tillman in between one of Tillman’s AAA minor league spring training starts. Tillman and Matusz make sure to watch each other’s outings and share tips & feedback every time (via Randy Henry, Orioles 2009 4th round draft pick).

wow! just wow…amazing performance how much longer until he’s with the Os?
Hopefully 8 or more AAA starts then to the O’s.
Great picture and good lord do O’s fans need something to look forward to.
Thanks! Tillman’s no-hitter definitely gives O’s fans something to look forward to. Now if someone on the O’s threw a no-hitter….
Thanks for the comment!
Nomination for Pitcher of the Week! Any reason why last night was different from his first 3 starts? Was he trying to work on mechanics/pitches/etc. before? Was last night more of a “just do your thing” type of start?
Well he’s not actually a prospect, but this was definitely worth posting. I believe he was working on his cutter in his first few starts. His velocity was down when I saw him at spring training so in his first three starts it’s possible he didn’t have his normal velocity. Tillman really has the ability to dominate any time he takes the mound. His changeup is really inconsistent from start to start but if it’s on, he is one tough pitcher.
