I was absolutely shocked when I heard about this. And yes…it does deserve it’s own post. Billy Rowell will move back to his original position, 3B and will also return to the Frederick Keys for the third straight season.
Billy Rowell is changing positions again. He’s moving back to the infield and back to third base.
Also, Rowell will begin this year with the Class-A Frederick Keys instead of playing for Bowie as some had speculated he might.
Rowell, the Orioles first-round pick in June of 2006, played in right field at Frederick last year. In his first three seasons in the organization he played at third base.
Here are some quotes from Rowell:
“I feel like this is a good plan. The new farm director John Stockstill has a plan for me in place and he thinks this will get me to the big leagues the fastest,” the 21-year-old Rowell said.
“They might DH me the first week or so, to make sure I feel comfortable there. Then play a couple of days a week at third and still DH, switch off and then eventually play every day at third.
“Just being on the dirt feels good. Outfield wasn’t uncomfortable, but I’ve just taken a lot more ground balls in my life than fly balls. I’ve played infield my whole life.”
“People get hung up on going to high A or Double-A. It’s all about dominating the league and I didn’t dominate last year. You should have a successful year to move up. They are almost treating me now like a college guy starting at Frederick. I’m only 21. It’s almost like a new slate.”
Rowell played well when I saw him at spring training. Still just 21 years old, people do need to remember that there is still some upside and potential.

I’m just hoping he improves, in any way. I’d really like to see him show some of the power that we’ve all been expecting.
I think Rowell just stinks he doesnt have any potential at im sorry but im just speaking the truth he will be and assistant coach soon back at his high Bishop Eustace along side hes old overated coach Coach Trop at Eustace who is a horrible coach who always plays easy teams. But anyhow there were 2 kids at Eustace that should of been drafted over Billy Rowell and thats 2nd baseman Joe Dugary, And cather Jake Connaire they were absolutely studs thet were just great all around ball players but Billy Rowell is done sorry to hear but the orioles should be smarted with there 1st round pick from now on. Kid has some sick raw power, he definitely doesn’t stink. He hasn’t been lighting up the stats sheets but there is definitely still some potential.
Joe I feel the same way about Rowell. But what about Greg Brodizinksi, he is without a doubt the best baseball and basketball player I have ever seen. And his dad is a hell of a guy too.
